WE HAVE SOME BIG TARPON!
For anglers in the know worldwide, the Rio Colorado is the world's premier destination to catch giant Tarpon. With that being said, our lodge in Costa Rica has been selected numerous times in various publications as the world's top Tarpon fishing lodge. This is a direct reflection of our staff who work hard to ensure every guest's fishing trip goes without a hitch.
Our fishery at Silver King is very unique, as this area is home to a very large population of resident, non-migratory fish. And the best part is our place is just minutes away from the action! This allows our lodge to operate all year long with giant fish always lurking nearby.
Our area also holds large populations of Snook, Tripletail, Cubera Snapper, Jack Crevelle, Barracudas, and other smaller hard-fighting species such as Rainbow Bass, Mojarra, Machaca, and Alligator Gar. There is enough variety that you often don't know what's on the other end of your line! And we're even able to go offshore for species such as Tuna, Atlantic Sailfish, and Wahoo. But we've found that most of our clients are after the GIANT FISH nearby. And honestly, we can't blame them, as it's hard to find a fish that fights as long and hard as Tarpon!
Our resident fishing guides here at Silver King Lodge are all well-seasoned vets of the local waters. Our guides, on average, have over 30 years' experience battling Giant Tarpon in the area. They will do everything they can to put you and your crew on some BIG fish!
TARPON FISHING BOATS WE USE
Our boats, which our guides in Costa Rica use, are custom-built with safety, smoothness, and reliability in mind. They are true ocean-going vessels that are 23 ft long with a Deep-V hull. And all of our 12 boats are equipped and powered by 200hp Yamaha motors. These boats are considered "Double Hulled" as they all have a flotation insulation foam that's inside the hull. These boats were simply built to fish, and you will see by the layout and fishability of these units. And not only that, it's hard to find a better-built boat for the ocean.
When we say our boats are custom-built, we mean it. All have been made in-house by Marcos. He literally builds it from the frame and hull up, and does all the finishing work such as the engine, electrical wiring, and all bodywork. They are simply works of art!
And each of these custom boats is equipped with quality electronics, VHF 25-watt radios, and all safety features in mind. We even equip each boat with dual-aft fighting chairs and a T-top for the sun. This will make for the most comfortable tarpon fishing experience.
And if you'd like to try some fishing upriver from the lodge, we have 4 15-ft aluminum Tracker skiff boats for your use. They each have Suzuki outboard motors and bimini tops for your comfort. These boats are available on a first-come, first-served basis to our lodge guests.
COSTA RICA FLY FISHING FOR TARPON
We offer the ability for experienced fly fishing anglers to test their skills as well. Our guides are not new to fly fishing, as many of our guests come here to battle a big one on the fly. This is an incredible opportunity to experience, and our guides are patient and passionate about landing your fish of a lifetime! Our fishing lodge is located on the banks of the Rio Colorado River, the largest river in Costa Rica. This means we're in the heart of the action, as there are always big fish around.
We're open all year long; however, we tend to say the best time is in the months of February through June, and again from Mid-August all the way past Thanksgiving season. And yes, we DO have a large variety of other fish species in the area as well. The more popular species include snook, wahoo, barracuda, Jack Crevalle, Spanish mackerel, snapper, and more.

Silver King Lodge is located in the Barra Del Colorado National Wildlife Refuge, 10 miles south of the border with Nicaragua. It is the second-largest rainforest preserve in Central America. Silver King Lodge is American-owned and operated, and offers unparalleled fishing in Costa Rica.
The lodge is situated on the bank of the Rio Colorado River, the largest river in Costa Rica, and 1 mile from the mouth of the Caribbean Sea. Our unique location provides anglers with quick access to some of the most productive Tarpon waters in the world.
Silver King Lodge is open year-round; however, the best fish months are from February to mid-June and mid-August through November. Tarpon average 100 lbs. at Silver King Lodge; we catch numerous fish each year in the 140-180 lb. range, and several well over 200 lbs. In addition to abundant fish, the area is also home to excellent tuna and wahoo populations, as well as a variety of other inshore species, including Snook, Spanish Mackerel, Jack Crevalle, Cuberra Snapper, Barracuda, and Tripletail.

Tarpon fishing is one of the most exciting battles. And if you think of GIANT tarpon, well, you have to think of Costa Rica. The fish in our area can grow to be well over 6 feet in length, and in some cases as much as 350 lbs.! Yes, we're talking some BIG fish here.
And whenever you think of these beasts, you usually think about the fight. They're well-known to jump out of the water as they fight to get away from the angler. In fact, they often jump numerous times throughout the battle, making this one of the most exciting fights in all of fishing.
